How watermark inspection and cleaning work

Visible watermarks

Visible text, logos and repeated overlays are detected as candidate regions. OCR may read text from them. Review and adjust every region before cleaning. The repair algorithm changes only selected pixels and blends the boundary, but content fully hidden by a watermark cannot be recovered exactly.

Invisible watermarks and metadata

The tool inspects EXIF, IPTC and XMP fields, C2PA containers, LSB steganography, known open blind-watermark schemes and suspicious frequency-domain signals. Proprietary robust watermarks cannot always be decoded or verified as removed; the result reports that limitation rather than claiming certainty.

Quality levels

Level 1 — Lossless: removes metadata without changing pixel bytes when the format permits.
Level 2 — Light: disrupts LSB payloads with almost no visible quality loss.
Level 3 — Recommended: adds targeted frequency-domain cleaning with a small quality cost.
Level 4 — Strong: adds spatial attacks and subtle warping; use only when necessary because quality loss is visible.
